SLATER - Leo Galloway, 84, of Slater, died Wednesday, February 19, 2014 at the Boone Hospital Center in Columbia.
Funeral services will be at 4 p.m. Saturday, February 22, 2014 at the Slater United Methodist Church, with Rev. Robert Sisney officiating. Burial will be in the Slater City Cemetery. Visitation will be from 2 to 4 p.m. Saturday at the church. Memorials are suggested to the Akeman-McBurney Clinic in care of Weiker Funeral Home in Slater.
Born December 18, 1929 in Green Ridge, he was the son of the late Shelton B. and Mattie Wolkey Galloway. On May 27, 1950 in Sedalia, he married Bonnie L. Brauer, and she preceded him in death on December 15, 2008.
He is survived by four sons, Mike Galloway and his wife Julie of Dexter, Ben Galloway and his wife Nancy and Rocky Galloway and his wife Cheryl, both of Columbia, and Richie Galloway and his wife Melissa of Liberty; eight grandchildren; four great-grandchildren; and a sister, Shirley Bilbruck of Clinton. He was preceded in death by five brothers and three sisters.
Mr. Galloway was a member of the Slater United Methodist Church. He was a past-member of the Slater Development Corporation, Slater School Board, the Board of Directors of Big Bend Retreat, Inc., and the 401 Couples Club. He worked at Town & Country Shoe in Sedalia before moving to Slater in 1954, where he became Foreman of Town & Country Shoe in Slater. He later owned and operated Galloway Shoe Store for over 20 years. He was a cattleman and farmer. He was also an avid hunter.
