Roberta Lucille "Bert" Thomas Obituary
WILLIAMSVILLE, Ill. - Roberta Lucille "Bert" Thomas, 78, of Sedalia, passed away Tuesday, December 25, 2018, at her daughter's home in Williamsville, IL.
She was born July 18, 1940, in Elliott, IA, daughter of Kelly Robert and Violet Mae (Templeton) Marsh.
On August 8, 1958, in Sedalia, she married Donald Earl Thomas, who preceded her in death on December 14, 1982.
Bert and her husband Donald owned and operated Massey Ferguson Tractor in the sixties and then Mid Mo Datsun in the seventies. Bert went to work at State Fair Community College in the eighties. She was an active supporter of the women's basketball team at the college. She loved on and cared for the girls as her own.
She was a member of First Baptist Church, where she was very active with the youth group.
Bert was a devoted mother and grandmother. Her home was always open and welcoming to her children's friends. Her hobbies included sewing and quilting.
Surviving are three children, Deborah Appleton (Bret), of Sedalia, Teresa Hursey, of Williamsville, IL, and Tracy Thomas (Jackie), of Green Ridge; six grandchildren, Jason Appleton (Anne), Donelle Appleton Walterbach (Mark), Jeremy Appleton, Myer Hursey, Holly Thomas and Eric Thomas; five great-grandchildren, Benjamin Appleton, Lexi Appleton, Leona Walterbach, Rosalie Walterbach and Emmaline Walterbach; three sisters, Anna Mae Smith, of Elliott, IA, Beverly "Peg" Brummett, of Marshall, and Ruby "Tuff" Marsh, of Sedalia; and two brothers, Orville Marsh, of Sedalia, and George Dean Marsh, of Sunbury, OH.
In addition to her husband and parents, she was preceded in death by a sister, Lyda Larson; and two brothers, Jack R. Marsh and Kelly Robert Marsh (in infancy).
Memorial services will be held at 7:00 p.m. Thursday, January 17, 2019, at Heckart Funeral Home.
The family will receive friends from 5:00 p.m. until service time Thursday, January 17, 2019, at the funeral home.
A private burial will be in Memorial Park Cemetery.
Memorials are suggested to First Baptist Church for youth group mission trips.
