Velma Irene Roberts Henry
LINCOLN — Velma Irene Roberts Henry, 94, of Lincoln, was born February 11, 1920 in Edwards, MO, the daughter of James Roy and Bertha Buckley Roberts and passed away, Sunday, May 4, 2014, at the Lincoln Community Care Center in Lincoln, MO.
In 1939 Irene came to Lincoln, MO, and on October 21, 1943, she was united in marriage to the late Lawrence L. (Si) Henry. They owned the Attwood & Henry General Store until 1977. Irene also worked at Lamy's in Sedalia and later for the Lincoln School District as a cook.
Irene was preceded in death by all her siblings; Myrtie Rapp, Gertie Davis Rapp, Ray Roberts, Fay Tucker, Jennie Hunt, Goldie Kelb, Virginia Burton and an infant sister Wanda Lee Roberts.
She is survived by a daughter Lana Whitworth and husband Jim, Lincoln, MO, a son Larry Henry and wife Cynde, of Gardner, KS. Five grandchildren, Shelia (Harold) Wilson, of Tightwad, MO, Dustin (Amanda) Whitworth of Warrensburg, MO, Heather Hammer and Renae Hammer of Gardner, KS, and Charlie Cox of Wellsville, KS. Five great- grandchildren, Hillel Hammer, Harmony Hammer, Maelynn Whitworth, Allison Whitworth and Abigayle Whitworth, a brother-in-law Robert Hunt, Lincoln, MO, and one sister-in-law Reba Henry of Windsor, MO.
Funeral services at 11:00 A.M., Wednesday, May 7, 2014, at First Baptist Church of Lincoln with visitation beginning at 10:00 A.M. Burial in the Lincoln Cemetery, Lincoln, MO. Friends may call at the Davis-Miller Funeral Home from 1:00 P.M. to 8:00 P.M., Tuesday evening. Memorial contributions to the First Baptist Church or the Lincoln Community Care Center.
