Cletus Daniel Felten

BLACKWATER — Cletus Daniel Felten, 91, of Blackwater, passed away Tuesday, July 15, 2014, at Katy Manor in Pilot Grove.

He was born January 29, 1923, on the family farm near Pilot Grove, son of Bertum and Florence Kraus Felten. In his childhood he went to school in Buffalo Prairie and then Pilot Grove. On February 9, 1948, in Martinsville, he married Gertrude Marie Lammers, who survives.

Cletus was a farmer all his life until retirement and always had a collie dog at his side. He and his wife lived on the same farm since the day they were married until he moved to Katy Manor.

Cletus is a member of the St. Joseph Catholic Church, the Clear Creek Knights of Columbus, and the American Legion Post 266. He served on the Cooper County Extension and Youth Fair board, and was a member of the Cooper County Cattlemen's Association. He served in the Army during World War II, from November 1942 to August 1946, earning the rank of Tech Sergeant 4. He served in the A.G. Cable section in Germany.

In addition to his wife of 66 years, survivors include three children, Marjorie Wessing (James), of Pilot Grove, Robert Felten (Susan), of Pilot Grove, and Joyce Felten, of Columbia; eight grandchildren; twelve great-grandchildren; and a brother, Charles Felten, of Pilot Grove.

He was preceded in death by his parents; and his twin brother, Clemus.

The Mass of Christian Burial will be at 10:00 a.m. Saturday, July 19, at St. Joseph Catholic Church in Pilot Grove, with Father Phil Kane officiating.

Casket bearers will be grandsons: Jon Felten, Brent Felten, Justin Gerke, Josef Felten, Darrin Vollrath, Avery Goehman and Kevin Brownfield.

Burial will be in St. Joseph Cemetery, with military honors by the U.S. Army and American Legion Post 304.

A prayer service will be held at 5:00 p.m. Friday, July 18, followed by visitation until 7:00 p.m. at St. Joseph Catholic church.

Memorial contributions are suggested to St. Joseph Catholic School or to a , in care of Meisenheimer Funeral Home in Pilot Grove.
