Ruby Frances (Townsend) Smith

SEDALIA — Ruby Frances (Townsend) Smith, of Sedalia, died on July 30, 2014, at Sylvia G. Thompson Residence Center in Sedalia.

She was born August 6, 1924, in Nelson, Missouri, only girl out of four children to William and Ruby Corene Renno Townsend. Ruby and Carl L. were united in marriage on June 2, 1951, in Warsaw. Carl preceded Ruby in death on April 7, 2010. They were together for 58 wonderful years.

Ruby was a wonderful mother, grandmother and great-grandmother. She loved to dance and listen to Loretta Lynn and Patsy Cline on her radio. She loved to watch her Chicago Cubs play ball. Her family was very important to her and she loved to visit with them and her friends. She thought very much of her helper Marge. She also enjoyed fishing and attending to her flowers.

Ruby is survived by one daughter ;Glenda Gould (Bill), of Sedalia, one son; Carl Smith, of Sedalia, one granddaughter; Brandi Lakin (Tony), of Kansas City, MO, three grandsons; Carl Smith (Lisa), of Sedalia, William Keele, of Apache Junction, AZ, Barry Keele, of Sedalia, 9 great-grandchildren.

In addition to her parents and husband she was preceded in death by her three brothers; John Robert Townsend, Jody Townsend and Kenneth Wayne Townsend.

Funeral services will be at 10:30 a.m. Saturday August 2, 2014, at Ewing-Schutte-Semler Funeral Home with Rev. Jim Downing, Jr. officiating. The family will receive friends from 9:30 a.m. until service time. Burial will be in Memorial Park Cemetery. Serving as active pallbearers will be Barry Keele, Carl Smith, Jerry Thomas, Gary Townsend, Marty Holdeman and Ron Blum. Honorary pallbearers will be William Keele and Tony Lakin.
