Lonnie Leland Acker, 85, of Cole Camp, died Monday, February 25, 2013, at Landmark Hospital, Columbia. He was born on December 13, 1927, on the family farm near Windsor, Missouri, a son of Frank and Pearl (Chaney) Acker.
He grew up near Windsor and on November 1, 1936, he was baptized in the Methodist Church. After school, he helped on the family farm and later moved to Kansas City to work for International Harvester. In 1950, he joined the United States Army and served his country honorably during the Korean War. After being discharged from the Army in 1952, he went to work for Harvey Brothers Implement in Sedalia.
On October 10, 1954, he was united in marriage to Irene Margaret Heisterberg, who preceded him in death on January 20, 1984. This union was blessed with two daughters, Deborah Louise and Tamarah Lynn. On May 15, 1955, he was confirmed at St. Paul's Lutheran Church in Sedalia by Pastor W. Strickert.
In the late 1950's, he worked for John Deere in Sedalia. In the mid-1960's, they moved to Cole Camp and he was employed with Kaysinger Equipment, working in both Warsaw and Lincoln until his retirement in 1993.
On February 20, 1988, at Trinity Lutheran Church in Cole Camp, he was united in marriage to Dorothy Lucille Hill Montgomery, who preceded him in death on April 19, 2003.
He was a member of the Trinity Lutheran Church in Cole Camp, the American Legion Post No. 305 of Cole Camp, and the Veterans of Foreign Wars of Sedalia. He enjoyed woodworking and traveling and loved to dance.
He is survived by two daughters, Deborah L. Goecker and her husband Wayne of Clarinda, Iowa, and Tamarah L. Heimsoth of Cole Camp; one step-daughter, Diane Stark of Mora; three step-sons, Mark Montgomery of Oakville, Ontario, Canada, Mike Montgomery of Temple, TX, and David Montgomery of Sedalia; one sister-in-law, Dorothy Acker of Windsor; four grandchildren, Amy Wisneski, Andrew Miesner, Timothy Heimsoth, and Ashley Heimsoth; twelve step-grandchildren, Brian Montgomery, Regan Montgomery, Kirk Montgomery, Jason Williams, Ashley Stark, Grant Montgomery, David Montgomery, Laura Montgomery, Madeline Collins, Amy Slaughterer, James Dickerson, and Brent Goecker; one great-granddaughter, Lillian; and eleven step-great-grandchildren.
He was preceded in death by his parents, Frank and Pearl Acker, his first wife, Irene Acker, his second wife, Dorothy Acker, two sons-in-law, Robert Miesner and Mitchell Heimsoth, a step-daughter, Susan Dickerson, five sisters, Maude Wells Chryst, Minnie Christian, Helen Green, Bernice Jordan, and Mabel Coffey Haynes, and three brothers, Harvey Acker, Robert Phillip Acker, and Charley Acker.
Funeral services will be held at 11:00 a.m. on Friday, March 1, 2013, at Trinity Lutheran Church, Cole Camp, with Pastor Todd Kollbaum officiating. Burial will be in Trinity Lutheran Cemetery, rural Cole Camp, with military rites by the American Legion Post No. 305 of Cole Camp.
A prayer service will be held at 6:00 p.m. on Thursday, February 28, 2013, at Trinity Lutheran Church in Cole Camp, with visitation to follow from 6:30 - 8:00 p.m.
The family suggests memorial contributions be given to Trinity Lutheran Church or Benton County Cancer Fund in care of the Fox Funeral Home, Cole Camp.
Pallbearers will be Dennis Balke, Ron Henning, Charles Morarity, Darrin Harms, Kevin Kyle, and Dale Harms. Honorary pallbearers will be Alvin Meyer, Robert Bristow, Raymond Schlesselman, and Reinhold Henning.
