Alberta Arletta Mae Ferguson President, 98, of Sedalia, Missouri died Wednesday, March 27, 2013, at Sylvia G Thompson Residence Center in Sedalia, Missouri. Born January 7, 1915, the daughter of Oma and Frances Ferguson.
She attended C.C. Hubbard School in Sedalia, Missouri. She married Herman William President, Sr. on December 25, 1933. Nine children were born; three of the children preceded her in death: Sallie, Barbara & Patty Jo., one brother, Oma Lee Ferguson, four grandchildren: Linda, Phillip, Roderick and Marshall, Jr., and two great grandchildren: Christopher Jr. and Michael Jr.
Mrs. President worked for the public school as a Head Dietician for many years. She was an active member of Quinn Chapel AME Church all of her life. Over the years she sang in the church choir, President of the Spirit of Allen Club, active in the community which she helped raise children, ran a Teen town, volunteered at Bothwell Regional Hospital for over 30 years, as well as worked the voting polls at each election for over 30 years. She became President of the Rosamunda Social Club, President of the PTA, member of the Church Women United, member of Yate Arts & Charity Association and OES Cyrene. She enjoyed plants, crossword puzzles, loved to travel and all you have to say was "GO". She was able to travel from Hawaii to Haiti, Canada to Texas, taking cruises, planes and automobiles.
She was referred as "MomaBert, Bert and Bert Bert". She leaves in mourn four daughters and two sons: Gwendolyn (Joseph) Thompson, of Port St. Lucie, FL; Carol Stimage, Sterling Heights, MI; Lilah (Raymond) Taylor, Kay (George) Finley, Herman President, Jr., and Albert President, of Sedalia, MO; son-in-law, Edward Johnson and sister-in-law, Herstine Ferguson, of Waterloo, Iowa, 21 grandchildren: Joy, Sharon, David William, Marcia, Terrye, Anita, LaSonya, Cyndi, Jacqueline, David C. Sr., LaShell, Benjamin, Maurice Jr., Gary, Gwendolyn, Shalonda, Herman III, Michael Sr., Tiara, Angela, George Jr., and Christopher Sr., a hundred and growing great grandchildren and great great grandchildren a host of nephews: Grant, Tony, Jeffery and Gregory Ferguson, niece(s) Vera Roulette, cousin, Rita Sue Whitney, cousins and many friends.
She always called the women of Quinn Chapel "Her Girls!" She also was nicknamed "Turtle" by a close friend, Ida. MOM enjoyed life and never met a stranger.
Celebration of Life Homecoming Services will be held 11:00 am, Thursday April 4, 2013 at Quinn Chapel A.M.E. Church, Sedalia, with Rev. Pledger Officiating. Burial will be in Crown Hill Cemetery. Pallbearers will be her grandsons & great grandsons. The family will receive friends from 6 – 8 pm on Wednesday, April 3, 2013, at the Alexander-May Funeral Home in Sedalia. A viewing will be held from 9am - 11am, at Quinn Chapel AME Church. The repast will be held at the Sedalia Housing Authority Community Center, 500 Welch Court, Sedalia, MO 65301
