Marie (Maloney) Holbert, 95, of KCMO, passed away May 20th, 2013. Funeral services will be at 11:00 a.m. on Tuesday, May 28th at Charter Funerals, 5000 Blue Ridge Cutoff, where the visitation will begin at 9:00 a.m. Burial will follow in Memorial Park Cemetery.
Marie was born on February 28, 1918 in Adrian, MO to Glen and Leona (Bateman) Maloney. She moved to Kansas City at age 18 and worked at Poppy's Percolator as a waitress, where she met her husband, Leonard H. Holbert, whom she married on February 28, 1942.
Marie was a volunteer who was involved in many activities. She was a Cub Scout Den Mother for 12 years, a charter member of Happy Hut Teen Town, a member of the Jackson County Polio Mother's Club, a participant in the early years of the March of Dimes Drive, and the Minute Circle Board. Marie was awarded the Lifetime Voluntary Member of Cancer Action, Inc. and was also active in Eastside Church Women. She was a member of Van Brunt Presbyterian Church and often referred to it as, "my life, my love."
Marie was preceded in death by her husband; a daughter, Cathy Sue Holbert in infancy; a great grandson, Joshua Len Holbert; a great granddaughter, Raven Celeste Holbert; and a great great granddaughter, Angel Rae Corwin. Survivors include her children and their spouses: Donald R. Holbert and Mary, Sedalia; Ricky L. Holbert and Marsha, Bellevue, NE; Peggy Lou Holbert of the home; Kevin G. Holbert and Katy, Sedalia; Steven Lee Holbert of the home; 8 grandchildren, many great and great great grandchildren, and many nieces and nephews.
