Our father, Ronald Alden Simmons, died in his sleep July 16, 2018, in Ellicott City, Maryland. He was born April 22, 1933 in Muskegon, Michigan to Amy (Kirby) and Alden Simmons. He graduated co-salutatorian from Saranac High School in Saranac, Michigan, in 1951. He served in the US Army Signal Corp in Austria. Ron worked for the Michigan Department of Corrections at the Ionia Reformatory. He married Joyce M. Simmons (nee Brown) in 1995. He is survived by three sons, Renald Simmons (Lynne), Robin Simmons (Ruth) and Ryan Simmons (the late Carolyn Piccotti); three step-children, Patricia Ripley, Brian Font and Jeff Font; grandchildren Rebecca, Reid, Rachel, James, Eric and Bryan, and great-grandchildren Cecilie and Avery. One brother Gerald Simmons (Sabra) survives. Several nieces, nephews, and step-grandchildren also survive him. Preceding him in death were his parents, his wife Joyce, and his oldest brother Donald Simmons.
The family will hold a graveside service in Saranac later.
