Gary Hogan Obituary
Gary Richard "Dick" Hogan, 79, of Ionia, passed away Thursday, August 23, 2018. He was born in Ionia on October 4, 1938, the son of Fancher and Rosamond (Bennett) Hogan.
He graduated from Ionia High School, Class of 1957. A proud member of the 1956 undefeated conference champion football team, he was inducted into the Ionia High School Athletic Hall of Fame in 2017. Gary served in the US Army for 2 years in active service and 4 years in the reserves, with an honorable discharge in 1968. He retired after 25 years of employment with the State of Michigan as a budget analyst.
He was married on February 6, 1965 to Barbara Stout, of Ionia.
Surviving Gary is his loving wife of 53 years, Barbara Hogan, daughters Beth (Robert) Streight of North Carolina and Sara Hogan of North Carolina; grandson Bryan Streight of North Carolina; sisters Shirley Courser of Coldwater and Sharon Harrington of Shelbyville, and many nieces and nephews. He was preceded in death by his parents Fancher and Rosamond.
A life-long sports fan, he followed MSU, but his greatest enthusiasm was encouraging his daughters' athletic pursuits. He enjoyed golfing twice a week, on Thursdays with the Ionia Men's League and on Tuesdays with a group from Fowler. Gary and Barb enjoyed spending winters in Siesta Key, Florida.
Gary was very detail-oriented and loved to tinker in the garage with complicated projects.
A memorial service will be held at the Lake Funeral Home in Ionia on Tuesday, August 28th at 11:00AM with Pastor Kenneth Harger officiating. Visitation will be held one hour prior to the service (10-11) at the funeral home. Online condolences may be made at www.lakefuneralhomes.com
