Kenneth E. Voet Obituary
Kenneth E. Voet, 80, of Ionia passed away June 6, 2014. He was born Dec. 16, 1933, in Marquette, Michigan, the son of George J. and Maria Santa (Giotto) Voet.

Kenneth married Sharron December on June 26, 1954, and she preceded him in death in 2001. He then married Phyllis Frith on May 21, 2005. Kenneth served in the USAF during the Korean War, stationed in Greenland. He worked for the Michigan State Police for 27 years before retiring in 1983. Kenneth then went to work for the City of Ionia as Chief of Police and the Director of Public Safety.

He was a member of SS Peter & Paul Catholic Church in Ionia.

Kenneth is survived by his wife Phyllis Frith of Ionia; children, Theresa (Thad) Taylor of Cedar Springs, Kathleen (Frank) Henry of Ionia, Judge Raymond (Barbara) Voet of Ionia and Anthony (Caren) Voet of Missouri; step children, Thomas Frith of Hastings and Roxanne Frith of Lansing; grandchildren, Ryan Taylor, Jenna Wood, Elizabeth Voet, Kenneth Voet II, Joseph Voet, Mary Voet, Nicholas Voet and Joel Thomas; five great grandchildren; and sisters, Rita Potvin of Marquette and Delores (Bill) Musolf of Marquette.

He was preceded in death by his parents, first wife Sharron; sister Julia S. Garceau; and brother Gerald R. Voet.

Ken was a loving husband, dad and grandfather. While many will remember him as a great police detective and police officer,  his family will remember him as a man passionate about life.  He loved gardening, hunting, traveling, reading books, Detroit sports - Tigers, Pistons and Lions (his family wishes he could have lived to see a Super Bowl.)  Most of all though, he was deeply proud of and loved his family. He was proud of kids and grandkids, and will be greatly missed by all.

Funeral Mass will be held at 11 a.m. Thursday, June 12, 2014, at  SS Peter & Paul Catholic Church with Father Tom Boufford celebrant. Visitation will be on Thursday one hour prior to the service at the church.

In lieu of flowers those wishing may make memorial contributions to SS Peter & Paul School. Arrangements by Lake Funeral Home in Ionia. Online condolences may be made at
