Charles Wallace McLaughlin passed away peacefully with his family at the bedside in the Intensive Care Unit of University of Louisville Hospital on Friday, September 6, 2013. Charlie was born in Louisville, Kentucky, on January 4, 1939, to William Lester McLaughlin and Mary Wallace McLaughlin. Charlie's main passion was breeding prize foxhounds and the sport of foxhunting. He served as Joint Master of the Long Run Hounds for 20 years and as its Huntsman for fourteen. Charlie is survived by his wife of 24 years, the love of his life and soul mate, Sally Cronan McLaughlin, and his two favorite children, Michael McLaughlin (Hope) of Louisville, Kentucky, and Victoria Smith (Brad) of Indianapolis, Indiana, and four grandchildren: Alex McLaughlin, Zoe McLaughlin, Avery Smith, and Ian Smith. I can't imagine LRH without Charlie McLaughlin....Sally I am so sorry for your loss! For what it is worth, I am pretty sure heaven looks like KY hunt country, and I know for a fact there are horses and hounds there (otherwise how could it possibly be heaven?).
Sincerely,
Laura Dalton

My prayers are with you. Charlie and Woodrow Bernard interviewed and hired me in 1977, and I enjoyed working with him everyday until he retired.

Charlie was a wonderful fellow whose smile could light up a room and make you feel right at home. Not only was he a pleasure to hunt with but he was always so kind to me and my family on every occasion. Truly a class act. We will never forget him.

I met Charlie in 1960. I was just out of high school, and working for the Highway Department. Charlie took me under his wing. Later I worked with him at District 5 in Louisville.
Great guy, steady, and professional.
I'm glad I knew him.
