Juanita Saunders Green

Juanita Saunders Green, 90, of Shelbyville, died Wednesday, 26 June 2013, at Crescent Place in Shelbyville. A native of Shelby County, Kentucky, she was the daughter of the late Clifton Leslie and Nova Young Saunders and the widow of the late C. Boyd Green. She was a member of the Buffalo Lick Baptist Church where she had been the organist for over sixty years. Her memberships also included the Shelby Chapter 170 of the Order of the Eastern Star. Joining the Eastern Star in 1950, for over 60 years she served in several capacities including five terms as Worthy Matron. As an Eastern Star member, she travelled throughout the United States and to several overseas countries representing her chapter, Kentucky, and the United States. Having begun her career as an employee of the Federal Land Bank in 1948, she ultimately retired as the executive secretary to the bank's President. In addition to her parents and husband, she was preceded in death by her brother, former Circuit Judge Harold Y. Saunders, and her sister-in-law, Susie Saunders. Survivors include her nephew, Michael Y. Saunders of Avon Colorado; nieces, Pam Saunders French of Pekin Indiana, and Suzette Green Nunley of Owensboro. Funeral services will be conducted at 2 p.m. Sunday, 30 June 2013, at the Hall-Taylor Funeral Home of Shelbyville, with Rev. Jeff Peed officiating. Interment will be in the Bagdad Cemetery. Visitation will be from 2 until 7 p.m. Saturday, at Hall-Taylor, with Eastern Star rites at 5 p.m. Expressions of sympathy may take the form of contributions to the Buffalo Lick Baptist Church, and online condolences may be expressed at www.halltaylorfuneralhomes.com.
