Margaret C. Miles

Margaret C. Miles, 90, of Bagdad, died Thursday, 6 June 2013, at Masonic Home of Shelbyville. A native of Frazier in Wayne County, Kentucky, she was the daughter of the late Henry Thomas and Maude Mercer Cooper. As a teacher, she began her twenty-nine year career in education in a one-room school house in Wayne County, and came to Bagdad High School to teach Home Economics, later retiring as the fourth grade teacher at Bagdad. A member of Tuttles Chapel Methodist Church in Wayne County, she had attended the Bagdad Baptist Church since 1946, where she formerly served as president of the choir, taught Sunday School and Vacation Bible School, and was instrumental in establishing the senior adult program which included members from neighboring churches. She was the founder of the Milestone Quilting Club. A member of the Christiansburg Homemakers, she was a former president of the Shelby County Homemakers Association, a Kentucky Master Farm Homemaker and a National Master Farm Homemaker, and a 4-H Leader for over thirty years. Survivors include her husband, J.W. Miles of Bagdad; her sons, Bill Miles and his wife, Jan, of Union, John Miles and his wife, Pam, of Reedsville, Wisconsin, and David Miles and his friend, Ray Myers, of Martinsburg, West Virginia; her sisters, Leta Faye Brammer of Monticello and Mary Lou Wiggen of Beaumont, Texas; her grandchildren, Holly Miles Moore and her husband, Brandon, Adam Seth Miles, Mallory Faith Miles, and John Wilson Miles III; and her great-grandson, William Brandt Moore. Funeral services will be conducted at 2:30 P.M., Monday, 10 June 2013, at the Hall-Taylor Funeral Home of Shelbyville, with Dr. David Hughes and Reverend Kyle Wiley officiating. Interment will be in the Bagdad Cemetery. Visitation will be from 2:00 P.M. until 8:00 P.M., Sunday, at the Hall-Taylor Funeral Home of Shelbyville.
