Anna Belle Smith, 92, of Simpsonville, died Thursday, 12 September 2013, at Masonic Home of Shelbyville. A native of Simpsonville, she was the daughter of the late William and Margaret Coryell Harz. She was a member of the Simpsonville United Methodist Church where, through the years, she had served in various capacities including financial secretary, the choir, handbell choir, youth leader, and active member of the ladies' organizations. She was a bookkeeper and retired as the office manager of the F. B. Purnell Sausage Company. As a parent, she was active in her children's educations and was a member and past president of the Simpsonville PTA and helped establish the Simpsonville School Band. Her memberships also included the Homemakers and she was a volunteer at Helping Hand. Survivors include her husband, George Frank Smith; her sons, William R. "Bob" Smith and his wife, Jane, of Louisville, and H. Barry Smith and his wife, Carolyn, of Shelbyville; her daughters, Dr. Frances Strickland and her husband, Governor Ted Strickland, of Columbus, Ohio, and Margaret Kammerdiener and her husband, Ron, of Louisville; and her six grandchildren, her nine great-grandchildren, and her one great-great-grandchild. Funeral services were conducted at 2 P.M., Monday, 16 September 2013, at the Simpsonville United Methodist Church with Reverend Ric Holladay officiating. Interment was in the Simpsonville Cemetery.
