Jack Clifton Langston, 79, passed away on March 14, 2014, at his home in Shelbyville, KY after a long battle with Parkinson's Disease. One of nine children, he was born on Feb. 12, 1935, in Clinton, NC to Stonewall Clifton and Florence Wade Langston. When he was a teenager, the family settled in Myrtle Beach, SC where he played baseball for Myrtle Beach High School and semi-pro baseball as a shortstop. He met his lovely wife, Shirley, in Myrtle Beach and the two were married in 1965. Jack worked in the construction industry for several years. He built and owned the Sea Islands Hotel in Myrtle Beach. In 1986, he retired from the hotel business and moved to Shelbyville to pursue his passion of breeding thoroughbred racehorses. Jack was a true animal lover, enjoyed bird watching, and was a lifelong fan of the Boston Red Sox and the Dallas Cowboys. Jack was preceded in death by his beloved wife, Shirley, and many cherished horses and dogs. He is survived by his daughter, Susan Clifton Langston, of Fort Lauderdale, FL and his primary caregiver, Hope Cranmer Gonzalez of Shelbyville. The family would like to thank all of his caregivers as well as the nurses and staff of Hosparus for their love and support. Visitation will be on Saturday, March 22 starting at 10 a.m. A memorial service will be held on Saturday at noon at Shannon Funeral Home, 1124 Main Street, Shelbyville, followed by a luncheon at Claudia Sanders Dinner House, 3202 Shelbyville Road, Shelbyville.
