James T. Embree, 78, Shelbyville, died Thursday, March 28, 2013 at the Hosparus In-Patient Care Center in Louisville. Born near Bedford, IN and a native of Mitchell, IN, he was the son of the late James H. & Katherine 'Kate' F. Turpin Embree. He graduated from Mitchell High School and attended Southeastern Christian College in Winchester. He then completed his education at Western Kentucky University, where he graduated in 1969 with a Masters and Rank I for K-12 Principalship. He began his career at Breckinridge County High School as a history teacher. He served as principal at Simpsonville Elementary School in Simpsonville from August 1969 until his retirement in July 1989. He was instrumental in helping oversee the building of the new elementary school in Simpsonville, and his career continued to see the completion of that facility. In his leisure time, he was an IU fan and enjoyed reading. He was a member of Fisherville Church of Christ, where he was a church leader and a Bible study leader.

Survivors include his loving wife of 53 years (married August 22, 1959 in Bryantsville, IN), Martha Jane Clark Embree of Shelbyville; one son, James R. (Paula) Embree of Louisville; three daughters, Joan (Sam) Marsh and Teresa (Roger) Marsh, both of Cynthiana and Holly Embree (Paul) Anderson of Louisville; two sisters, Ida Kay Smith of Taylorsville, IN and Mary Tincher of Bedford, IN; 11 grandchildren, Ben (Katie) Marsh, Clark (Michelle) Embree, Kayla Marsh, Lola (Luke) Embree Davidson, Adam Marsh, Peter Embree, Ginna Marsh, Kyle Marsh, Heather Anderson, Christopher Embree and Ian Anderson; several nieces and nephews and many former students and friends.
Funeral services will be at 11 a.m., Tuesday, April 2, 2013 at Webb Funeral Home with visitation 5-8 p.m. Monday at the funeral home. Tim Morrow will officiate. Burial will follow at Grove Hill Cemetery.
