Julia Louise Powell Henry, daughter of Julius and Stella Powell, passed away at Claiborne Hughes of Franklin, TN on Sept. 25, 2013. Louise is predeceased by her devoted husband of 55 years, James Able Henry; and her siblings: Lorraine Powell Gordon, Juanita Powell Duncan, Douglas Powell, and Roberta Powell Gaddie. Louise is lovingly remembered by her daughter and son-in-law, Debbie Henry Lucas (Baron Lucas) of Charleston, SC; her son and daughter-in-law, James Daryl Henry (Venetia Henry) of Franklin, TN; her grandchildren: Martha Louise Bochette (Capt. Rhett A.), Jane Alexander Lucas, Olivia Louise Henry and James Colin Henry; and great granddaughter Lilla Jane Bochette. Louise was born in Versailles, KY on Oct. 26, 1931. She spent the majority of her life in Shelbyville and graduated from Shelbyville High School in 1948. She worked at Shelby County Trust Bank. She also worked as a bookkeeper in the Shelby County tobacco market. An avid gardener, Louise enjoyed caring for the church garden at St. James Episcopal Church for numerous years. She was a member of the International Order of Kings Daughters and Sons. She was a dedicated Bridge player and was a member of several bridge clubs. Louise also enjoyed sewing, knitting, crocheting, and smocking dresses for her granddaughters. She deeply loved her children and grandchildren and delighted in spending time with them. Louise will be especially remembered for her strong spirit, intelligence, integrity, and tenacity. The service of remembrance will be held at St. James Episcopal Church, 300 Main Street in Shelbyville on Saturday, Oct. 5, 2013 at 11 AM. In lieu of flowers, memorial donations may be made to St. James Episcopal Church Garden or the Juvenile Diabetes Research Foundation (JDRF).
