Martha "Libby" Walls Oldham, 95, died Wednesday, January 31, 2018 at the Masonic Homes of KY in Shelbyville. She was a native of Marion County. She retired as an administrative assistant in the chairman's office of the Department of Pediatrics at the University of Louisville. She was a member of the Simpsonville Baptist Church where she had been active in the senior adult group, the Good Time Travelers. Over the years she had been active in a number of churches where she had served in the Women's Missionary Union, taught Sunday School for over 40 years, as well as served as a Girls-in-Action leader. She had been a member of the Filson's Club and a member of the University Club at the University of Louisville. She loved researching genealogy and she loved being a part of the Bellringers at the Masonic Home.
She was preceded in death by her parents, Jesse Steger Stayton and Martha Alice Hays Stayton; her sisters, Beulah Fay Miles and Othel Skees; her brothers, Robert L. Stayton and Jesse Clifton Stayton; and husbands, Orville Walls and Col. Charles C. Oldham.
She is survived by her sons, Gary L. Walls (Janey) of Shelbyville and Glenn E. Walls (Roberta) of Parker, CO; her brothers, Roland Stayton (Barbara) of Crestwood and William A. Stayton of Louisville; her sister, Dorothy A. Hicks (Donnie) of Ocala, FL; and 3 grandchildren, Andrew J. Walls and Cindy Young of Colorado, and Matthew "Walzy" Walls of Ann Arbor, MI; and 3 great grandchildren, and 3 great great grandchildren. She was affectionately called "Fib" or "Aunt Libby" by her cherished 29 nieces and nephews.
Funeral services will be 11:00 a.m. Monday, February 5, 2018 at the Shannon Funeral Home with the Rev. Steve Boyd and the Rev. Jesse Baxter officiating. Stanton Garr will be singing How Great Thou Art and In the Garden. Visitation will be 2-6 p.m. Sunday, February 4, 2018 at the funeral home. There will be a private burial in Louisville Memorial Gardens West in Louisville.
Expressions of sympathy may be made to the WHAS Crusade for Children c/o Shelby County Fire District or the Simpsonville Baptist Church Building Fund.
