Mary Hedges Obituary

Funeral service for Mary Elizabeth Johnson Hedges, 89, of Waddy, will be 1:30 p.m. Tuesday at LeCompte Johnson Taylor Funeral Home. Bro. Sanford Hill, Bro. Jay Padgett, Bro. Philip Meade, and Bro. Rick Clark will officiate. Burial will follow in Sunset Memorial Gardens. Mary Elizabeth passed away Thursday at Frankfort Regional Medical Center. A Shelby County native, she spent most of her career operating a daycare for 40 plus years, working at Lincolns Department Store in Shelbyville, and J.J. Newberrys. She enjoyed watching her garden grow, tending to the 300 plus children she watched at the daycare over the past 40 years, and she was a member of Graefenburg Christian Church. Survivors include her daughters; Ruby Carolyn McGuire, Frankfort, Brenda Haydon, Waddy, Darlene Smith (Doug), Peytona, grandchildren; Renita Durham Van, Robyn Durham, Ralph Durham, Rhonda Ivers Grimes, Randy Durham, Ronnie Durham, Regina Ivers Pickle Rice, Rechelle Durham Lewis, Ryan Smith, Roger Smith, great grandchildren, Jay Van, Daniel Durham, Matthew Durham, Shayla Durham, Alexis Durham, Lesa Durham Black, Kenny Durham, Blake Cody Pickle, Breanna Gipson, Camden Smith, Kinsey Roberts, Tanner Roberts, Carson Smith, Alexis Seaman, Chris Lewis, Shawn Lewis, Tylor Lewis, great great grandchildren; Jasmine Durham and Ethan Durham and special friends; Ikie Ivers and Gayle Pickle. She is preceded in death by her husband, Eugene Ross Hedges and parents, Ben and Emma Wilson Johnson. Pallbearers will be Ryan Smith, Roger Smith, Jay Van, Glen Saylor, Billy Rice, Gayle Pickle, Kevin Grimes, and Stewart Shirley. Honorary pallbearers will be Jordon Mershon, Ikie Ivers, Doug Smith, Paul Daniel, Chris Daniel, Charlie Harrod, Chris Smith, Butch Dunsmore, William Cornish, and Danny Bullard. Visitation will be 2 to 6 p.m. Sunday and 4 to 8 p.m. Monday at LeCompte Johnson Taylor Funeral Home. Expressions of sympathy may be made to the Franklin County Relay For Life and Nativity Fund at Graefenburg Baptist Church.
