Nancy Durrett Ethington, 83, of Shelbyville, passed away peacefully Nov. 13, 2012 surrounded by her loving family. She was a gracious southern lady who treasured her family and friends. Dedicated to her community, Nancy never met a stranger. She was a member of the Simpsonville Baptist Church, worked as a substitute teacher for years and Shelby County Trust Bank, retiring from Citizens Union Bank. Nancy belonged to many to many organizations, board member of Shelby County Fair Board and Shelby County A&M. She enjoyed horses through the span of her life. She loved to travel and truly enjoyed her special group of ladies that called themselves the Yah-Yah gals (Betty Sue Duvall, Betty Howerton, Ann Hayes, Lady Spugnardi and the late Wanda Duvall). She derived her greatest joy from watching her children and grandchildren grow. She was preceded in death by her husband of 61 years, Elmo Ethington; daughter, Toni Roberts; brother, Jack Durrett; parents, John and Pearl Durrett. Left to cherish her memory are devoted daughters, Lyn Land (Dr. Jim), Pat Carriss (Tony), Terry Hayden (Tom); son-in-law Dr. Bill Roberts; brother, Jimmy Durrett (Billieann); sister Mac Lancaster; sister-in-law, Caroline Durrett; 13 grandchildren and 15 great-grandchildren. The family would like to thank the staff of Amber Oaks Assisted Living Center for their kind care and assistance over the past three years and the people from Hosparus for their help in recent weeks. Services will be 11 a.m. Friday at Shannon's Funeral Home. Visitation is 4-8 p.m. Thursday. Expressions of sympathy may take the form of contributions to Luci Center, P.O. Box, Shelbyville, Ky. 40065.
