Ross O. Petersen, of Taylorsville, KY, passed away on March 26, 2018 at the age of 58. Ross was born in Milwaukee, WI on October 7, 1959, the youngest of four children to Dick and Lynn Petersen. Ross attended schools in Wauwatosa, WI, Clayton, MO and graduated from Eastern High School in Louisville, KY. Following high school, Ross attended Sullivan University in Louisville, KY, earning a degree in Business Administration.

Ross was most recently employed by N. Glantz & Son Sign and Graphic Supplies in Louisville, KY. Prior to that he worked at Fiscosa North America in Shelbyville, KY and Country Mart in Taylorsville, KY. In his earlier days, Ross proudly served as a volunteer firefighter with the Middletown, KY fire department.

Ross will be remembered for his sense of humor and his commitment to his family. He loved spending time with his two sons, Zach and Josh, sharing his love of the outdoors with them while fishing, golfing and camping. Ross served as a parent volunteer in various Scouting activities that his boys were involved with. Even though he moved away from Wisconsin during his teenage years, Ross never lost his love for the Green Bay Packers and was always thrilled when the Packers had a nationally televised game that he could watch.

Despite Ross' recent battle with the diseases of alcoholism and depression, he lived many years in recovery and sobriety for which both he and his family were immensely proud of. His family deeply appreciates all his friends in the AA community who shared their love and support, acted as sponsors and encouraged him into treatment when needed. Ross was powerless over this disease. He did not choose to isolate himself in recent months from a family who loved him. Ross will be forever missed.

Ross is survived by his sons, Zachary Todd Petersen (Theresa, WI) and Lance Corporal Joshua Richard Petersen (Taylorsville, KY), his mother, Lynn Petersen (Fond du Lac, WI), his sisters Jaye (Joseph) Ciontea (Fond du Lac, WI) and Carrie Petersen (Appleton, WI) as well as by his former spouse and the mother of his children, Paula Greenwell Walter (Taylorsville, KY). He is further survived by nieces, nephews, aunts and cousins. Ross is preceded in death by his father, Richard E. Petersen; his brother, Todd A. Petersen; his nephew, Jeremy J. Ciontea; and his maternal and paternal grandparents.

To celebrate his life, a Memorial Service will be held at 11:00 am on Saturday, April 7, 2018 in the chapel of Salem United Methodist Church, 120 Sheboygan St, Fond du Lac, WI, officiated by Rev. Bill Beaton. Visitation at the church is scheduled beginning at 10:00 am until the time of the service. Cremation has taken place. Interment will be at Cave Hill Cemetery in Louisville, KY. Hall-Taylor Funeral Home of Taylorsville is serving the family.

In lieu of flowers, the family asks that memorials be directed to Isaiah House, a Residential/Outpatient Treatment Center for Men, 2084 Main Street, Willisburg, KY 40078 or to your local NAMI (National Alliance on Mental Illness) organization.
