William Adams

The Guest Book is expired.

Quick-witted to his very last day, William Martin Adams, a retired Naval Officer, long-time sales and marketing executive, devout Presbyterian, inventive poet and legendary coupon clipper, passed away Saturday, July 7, at the River Landing at Sandy Ridge Retirement Community in Colfax, NC.

Preceded in death by the love of his life, Shellbyville native Cecie Lawson Adams, Bill is survived by his daughter and son-in-law Mary and David Fabrizio, grandsons, Nick and Neil, son and daughter-in-law Greg and Paula, and son Briggs.

Born in a rural town in Arkansas, Bill was raised by Tillman and Mabel Adams in Oklahoma City. Holding a bachelor's degree from Oklahoma City University, Bill was a Bombardier Navigator in the Navy when he fell head over heels for for Cecie while he was stationed in San Diego. Not long after they were married, Bill earned an MBA from the prestigious Wharton School of Business. He would go on to a long career in sales and marketing, including an extended stint with IBM.

Funeral services will begin at 11:00 a.m. on Wednesday, July 11, at First Presbyterian Church, Shellbyville, where Bill was an Elder. Pastor Jay Hodge will lead the services.

In his spare time, Bill enjoyed trading tennis volleys with Cecie, "duffing around" the golf course with friends and family, cruising Guist Creek Lake on a pontoon boat and clapping loudly for Indiana basketball teams. He especially enjoyed music and remembered every word of the many songs he heard and sang.

In lieu of flowers, donations may be made to First Presbyterian Church, 629 Main Street, Shellbyville, KY, 40065.

Shannon Funeral Home is in charge of arrangements.
