William "Zeke" Thomas, 84, Shelbyville, died Sunday, April 20, 2014 at University of Louisville Hospital following an illness. A native of Cropper, he was the son of the late Rena Stone and Alex Thomas, Sr. He was a veteran of the U.S. Army. He retired from General Electric Company following 34 years of service. He was a custodian at The Sentinel-News and grass cutter for State Farm and many residences. He began his working career on the farm of Ben Allen Thomas. He was an avid UK fan. He was a member and former deacon of St. Luke's Baptist Church in Eastwood. In addition to his parents, one brother, Alex Thomas, Jr., one sister, Mary Catherine Beecham and her husband, Charles "Shed" Beecham, two nephews, James Thomas and Joseph Slaughter and two nieces, Aezline Thomas and Dorareetha Marshall, preceded him in death. Survivors include his loving wife of 59 years, Florientine Thomas of Shelbyville; two daughters, Sharon Thomas and Stephanie (Bruce) Martin, both of Louisville; one brother, Earnest Raymond (Dorothy Miller) Thomas of Louisville; one sister, Nancy Thomas of Shelbyville; one grandchild, Ma?Caleb Martin of Louisville; two step-grandchildren, Ra'Shann Martin of Louisville and Tyrone Williams of Atlanta, GA; one sister-in-law, Esther Thomas; six nephews, one niece and a host of other relatives and friends.
Funeral services will be at 1 p.m. on Friday, April 25, 2014 at Clay Street Baptist Church with visitation 6-9 p.m. Thursday at the church. Rev. Kevin Love will deliver the eulogy.
