Catharine Owen Ellis, of Shelbyville, KY, died Thursday, March 28, at Jewish Hospital, Shelbyville. She is survived by her husband of 71 plus years, Gilbert Morrison Ellis Sr.; three sons, Gilbert Jr. (Barbara), Jesse (Friend George Fleischmann), Hays; seven grandchildren, Elizabeth Ellis, Russell Ellis, Gilbert Ellis, III (Allison), Deica Brown (Michael), Jason Kingsolver (Christin), Jacob Ellis, Mollie Ellis; and five great-grandchildren, Gavin and Grayson Brown, Luke, Brenna and Allie Kingsolver. Catharine attended Science Hill School for girls and graduated from Shelbyville High School in the class of 1938. She married Gilbert M. Ellis December 16, 1941 at her home of 601 Brown Avenue, Shelbyville. Their first home was in Ashland, KY, while her husband was employed by Ashland Oil. When her husband was in the service for World War II, she was able to find residences near his locations. After completing his time for military service, they returned to Ashland and lived in Ashland three times, the last 17 years. After retirement the couple returned to Shelbyville in 1973. Catharine was an avid golfer, loved playing bridge, was a 40 plus year member of D. A. R., member of Shelbyville Country Club, member of Altar Guild of St. James Episcopal Church. A Memorial Service will be held at 11 AM, Saturday, March 30, 2013, at St. James Episcopal, followed by a Celebration of Life Reception in St. James Parish Hall at Noon.
