STEVEN STRAUSS Obituary

Steven D. Strauss (Dec. 5, 1945 - July 6, 2012) Steve Strauss, born in Austin, Texas, was a visionary, an artist, a musician, an ad man, and, above all, a lover of friends and family. He died peacefully after a long and gracefully endured infirmity. Steve founded the bands Buster and Wolfgang & Strauss. He loved music, art, and commerce and was a founder of San Francisco's Blue Bear School of American Music. Through Strauss Public Arts and Sciences, he promoted public art as well as advertising. Strauss was an honors graduate of UC Berkeley and a free-speech movement activist. A 30-year resident of Mill Valley, he was the father of two, and is survived by his wife Joan Barnes and brothers Michael and Richard, and their respective families, and his daughters, Zoe Strauss and her dog Pinky, and Jessica Strauss, her wife Brooke Soles, and their dog Mazzy. The family will hold a memorial in early September. Those wishing more information can contact [email protected] for details. Donations in his memory may be made to a fund in his name at Blue Bear School of Music called the Steve Strauss Founders Scholarship.
