Peter O'Neill Obituary

Peter Alfred Joseph O'Neill

November 29, 1928 - December 17, 2014

Peter A. O'Neill passed away quietly in his Daly City home on December 17, 2014. Despite struggling with chronic heart disease and prostate cancer for years, Peter fought hard so that he could remain on this earth and with those he loved for as long as possible. Against all odds, he was fortunate to celebrate his 86th birthday surrounded by all of his family and friends.

Peter was born and raised in Sydney, Australia. He had a humble upbringing and joined the Merchant Marines at a young age of 15. Eventually he landed in San Francisco where he met his first wife Harriette and had three children and he adopted her son. They built a family and a life for themselves moving to Daly City in 1960. Peter worked every day of his life until his advanced age, and related body aches, told him it was time to stop. This was when he was 82! He worked for Lowrie Paving for 39 years as a Truck Driver/Asphalt Foreman then enjoyed working as a handyman. Peter's work ethic was impressive and instilled in his family and continues with each generation.

Although Peter was an extremely hard-worker, he definitely didn't miss out on travel and leisure activities. He was passionate about hunting and fishing and spent his life fulfilling his lifestyle and loved the opportunity to teach others about these sports. He was also fortunate to travel the world. He was lucky to have met Marge Ignacio and for 27 years they traveled extensively and enjoyed all this world had to offer them.

Peter lived a full and wonderful life and has now joined his loved ones in heaven. He is predeceased by his adopted son, Ron, his first great-granddaughter, Marissa, and his best friend, Marge. He is survived by his sister, Beryl, and nephews Stephen and Perry of Balina NSW Australia; his three children Pat, Peggy, and Mike; His eight grandchildren, Shawna, Katie, Melinda, Christina, Michelle, Michael, Candida, and Peter; And his eight great-grandchildren, Alexis, Veronica, Madison, Cassidy, Michael Alex, Matthew, Boo-Boo and Skylar.

At his request, there will be no services. There will be a private burial at sea.

Donations can be made in his honor to the non-profit charity which was created in memory of his first great-granddaughter, Marissa.

Sorry for your loss. I always found Pete humerous. He made me laugh. He also remodeled my bedroom closet years ago and it is the best part of my house. He did a perfect job. I will miss him.
