Donald Desy Obituary

Donald H. Desy Dr. Donald Desy, retired physical scientist of San Francisco, died July 24, 2013 after a brief illness.
Born in Pittsburgh, PA, June 30, 1920, he was the son of the late Gustave Gerald and Emmeline Paradis Desy. He was predeceased by his loving wife, Lilly Glauser Desy in 1991.
During World War II, Don served in the U.S. Army Air Forces as a weather officer and an air traffic control officer. He graduated from the University of Kentucky, received his Master's degree from Renssalaer Polytechnic Institute(NY), and his Doctorate in Metallurgical Engineering from Columbia University(NY).
Don worked for several companies as a research scientist, subsequently joining the U.S. Bureau of Mines, specializing in metallurgy.
After his retirement Don and his wife travelled extensively, always happy to return to their home in San Francisco. Following Lilly's death Don continued to travel, and also spent more time enjoying his hobbies of photography and stamp collecting, as well as his books and music.
Don is survived by his brother Thomas G. Desy (wife Anne), and his niece Jane Desy Gebhardt (husband James, and their two children), all of Norwalk, CT.
A Memorial Service will be celebrated on Tuesday, August 6, 2013 at 10am at Driscoll's Valencia St. Serra Mortuary, 1465 Valencia St, San Francisco, CA.
