Cav. Alfeo "Luigi" Silvestri
June 21, 1934 - March 31, 2013
On Easter morning, Alfeo known to everyone as Luigi, passed away peacefully at home surrounded by his loving family after a courageous battle with cancer.
Born to Adorno and Santina in San Cassiano di Controne, Lucca, Italy.
Beloved husband of Paola for 54 years. Adoring father of Sandra Silvestri, Rita (John) Nardi, Piera (Marino) Giannini.
Loving Nonno to seven: Dina, Natalie, John Daniel, Christopher, PierLuigi, Alessandro and Chiara. Adoring bis nonno to Gemma and Giada.
Cherished brother of Dorotea (Luigi) Giannini and Lina (Giandomenico) Fabbri. Caro zio to his many nieces and nephews.
Luigi immigrated from Italy in 1956 and founded A. Silvestri Company along with his father Adorno. He was an innovator in the statue manufacturing industry and his business is still thriving today.
While raising his three daughters, he insisted they speak only Italian in the home, and instilled in them the love of his culture and heritage.
He was an avid mushroom, dove, pheasant and duck hunter. He especially enjoyed cooking for friends and family at his factory in So. San Francisco. His hospitality, generosity , and charm are legendary. He loved to socialize and dance. He was an active member of: Associazione Lucchesi Nel Mondo, Scacciapensieri, Italian American Social Club, Opus, Peninsula Italian American Social Club, and Crocker Amazon Bocce Club. Luigi was also a member of the Com.it.es which promoted Italian Culture working as a liaison with the Italian Consulate. Luigi was honored by the Italian Consul General of San Francisco and was given the title of "Cavaliere". He was also honored by the Chamber of Commerce of Lucca, Italy and was bestowed the Gold Medal for recognition of outstanding achievement. Luigi loved traveling to his hometown in Italy yearly and was known for hosting large get togethers at Trattoria da Santina as well as his home where his guests enjoyed wine and his favorite foods.
He will truly be missed by his loyal foreman, Tony Encizo Sr. Luigi celebrated life everyday and will be remembered by all who loved him.
There will be a funeral mass held in his honor on Thursday, April 4, 2013, 10 A.M. at Our Lady of Angels Church, 1721 Hillside Drive, Burlingame. In lieu of flowers, the family requests donations to the UCSF Helen Diller Family Comprehensive Cancer Center or the
