Daniel McBrady

Daniel J. McBrady

1933- 2013

On this 27th day of June 2013, Daniel McBrady Jr. 79, passed peacefully into the arms of God after a long and courageous battle against cancer. His adoring wife, Chris of 43 years was by his side.

Son of Daniel Sr. and Kezia McBrady, of Victoria, BC, Dan was born and raised in San Francisco, CA and was a resident of San Mateo, CA since 1970.

Dan attended Epiphany Grammar School and graduated from St. Ignatius High School. He attended the University of San Francisco and graduated in 1955 with a degree in physics. His graduate studies were at the University of Washington in Seattle.

After graduation, Dan received his commission into the U.S. Army as a lieutenant. His tour of duty fell between the Vietnam and Korean Wars and he was stationed at a NIKE site in the Berkeley Hills. He often joked that no enemy of the U.S. attacked during his tour of duty because they knew whose finger was on the button. At the end of his service, Dan quickly found a job at Philco Corp. in Mt. View, CA. Russia had just launched "SPUTNIK" and the space race was on. With his experience with missiles, Dan was a valued contributor to the engineering team to which all of the space technology was brand new. He found this exciting.

Dan worked as a satellite engineer for 42 years, as the company evolved from Philco to Ford Aerospace and then Space Systems Loral. Dan loved his work and the technical knowledge and travel opportunities he gained. Dan and his wife, Chris spent two years in France as he consulted on the European weather satellite, "Meteosat".

He made many good friends there working with colleagues, and became a real Francophile.

Dan was a devoted father to his son, Brian (deceased). He leaves behind a large extended family: a loving sister, Mary E. Ghiorso "Mimi" and seven nieces and nephews, Michael/Carolynn Ghiorso and children, Rev. David Ghiorso, Marie/Scott Tiraschi and sons, Kathy/Brian Cox and children, Dan/Margaret Ghiorso and children, Ann Ghiorso, Rose/Russ Carmick and children.

Dan also leaves behind his sister and brother-in-law, Carol and Gianni Prete of Asti, Italy along with nieces, Marina/Stefano Novara and Valeria/Paolo Tosco. He loved traveling to Asti and staying with his Italian family.

Dan will be sorely missed by his SI buddies, Class of '51 as they gather on the first Friday of each month at the Balboa Café in SF.

Visitation for family and friends will begin at 6:00 PM. The Vigil/Rosary will begin at 7:00 PM on Monday, July 1, 2013 at SNEIDER & SULLIVAN & O'CONNELL'S, 977 So. El Camino Real, San Mateo.

A Funeral Mass will be celebrated on Tuesday, July 2, 2013 at 10:00 AM at St. Bartholomew Catholic Church, corner of Alameda and Crystal Springs Rd. San Mateo.

Memorial contributions may be made to St. Ignatius, Class of 1951 Scholarship Fund, 2001-37th Ave. SF 94116 or to Sutter VNA Hospice, 700 S. Claremont St. Suite 220, San Mateo, CA 94402.
