Edwin Johnson

Edwin Johnson Passed away peacefully in his San Mateo home. He was born in San Francisco to Axel and Selma Johnson. He was preceded in death by his wife of 64 years, Mary Jo, his parents, his brother Norman Johnson and his daughter Susan Graffuis. He is survived by his son Phil Johnson (Lynne) of San Jose and daughter Sharon Becker (Marc) of Redwood City. In addition, he is survived by his grandchildren Chris (Kari), Kelley, Darren, Brad, Matthew and Brenden; and great grandchildren Axel, Mabel and Reyn.
He grew up in Sonoma High School and Santa Rosa Junior College. He began his career in banking at American Trust Company in Santa Rosa. He served in the Army Air Corp during World War II, as a gunnery instructor. His banking career spanned 42 years at Wells Fargo Bank, working in branches in San Francisco, Sacramento, San Rafael, San Mateo and Palo Alto. He then worked as a private conservator for over 20 years.
Ed loved living and working in San Mateo and was an active member of the community. He was involved in the San Mateo Chapter of Boys Scouts of America, the United Way, the 100 Club of San Mateo County, and San Mateo Rotary Club. He served on the boards of the Lesley Foundation, Easter Seal Society and G.W. Williams Co. Other affiliations included Native Sons of Sonoma, American Institute of Banking, and the Masonic Lodge.
The family would like to recognize his wonderful caregivers; Linda, Sekola, Rowena, and Lupe; who brought comfort to us all.
A Celebration of Life will be held on Saturday, March 16th at 2 p.m., at Sneider & Sullivan & O'Connell's, 977 S. El Camino Real, San Mateo.
In lieu of flowers, donations "In memory of Ed Johnson" may be made to San Mateo Rotary Club, P.O. Box 95, San Mateo, Ca 94401.
