Elio Ciardella

Was born Oct 11, 1921 in San Jose, CA to Italian immigrants Alfredo and Oliva Ciardella. Raised in Colma, Elio followed in his father's footsteps and learned to be a blacksmith and iron worker.

At the age of 21, Elio joined the army and served in Europe during WW II. After landing in Normandy and surviving 4 major battles, Elio came home and married his true love, Enes, his wife of 64 years. During their life together they traveled to many places around the world. But, they especially loved traveling in Europe to Italy and Switzerland.

Elio was a shrewd businessman and entrepreneur and ran his own iron business for 42 years. Elio loved to garden and shared his organic vegetables with family and friends. He was also a fantastic cook and loved to make delicious Italian meals. Everyone was always welcome to eat in his home. He touched many people with his ability to tell interesting and detailed stories about life.

Elio is fondly remembered as a loving husband, dedicated father and grandfather by his loving wife Enes, his four children Nancy, Robert, Roy and Richard, 6 grandchildren, and 3 great grandchildren. Elio died peacefully at home with his family on Oct 12, 2013 at the age of 92.

A memorial mass will be held at Our Lady of Angels church in Burlingame, Friday Oct 18 at 11 a.m.
