Elizabeth "Betty" Long
3/06/20 - 10/24/13
After enjoying a nice lunch and harmonizing in a songfest, longtime Alamedan Betty Long closed her eyes, took a gentle breath and exited this world gracefully, as she would have wished. She leaves behind loving son and daughter Craig Long and Nancy Long Brandt, son-in-law Steve Brandt; many nieces and nephews, and stepgrands Rob and Demi Brandt. Betty was predeceased in 2011 by her husband of 63 years, Leonard O. Long. A celebration of her life will be held in January. Details will be posted at Legacy.com. Contributions to the Alameda Free Library Foundation in her memory would have filled her heart.

Growing up in Southern California, I remember many happy visits to Alameda to visit Aunt Betty, Uncle Len and cousins Nancy and Craig.
Later, I visited many times with my husband and later with son.
Even later, I visited Betty and Len. She proudly showed me her Navy uniform, which now is in my possession along with her letters.
Many, many fond memories!

Just lovely! So eloquently written. Beautiful words for a beautiful mother from a beautiful daughter!

Nancy, both your mom and dad were a treasurer. I have very fond memories of being in attendance at the parties with the "Alameda Gang." Betty would come in with her potluck food item and very confidently place it on the table and take pride in watching people eat. She wasn't shy and asked lots of good questions. Both she and your dad will be missed.
