Frances Schmadeke

Frances Mary Schmadeke

Age 90, passed away April 27, 2013 at Highland House Nursing and Rehabilitation Center in Grants Pass Oregon.


"Fran" was born in Philadelphia Pennsylvania on May 26, 1922 to Clement and Gertrude (Preston) Bittner.


Prior to moving to Oregon eight years ago, Fran spent many years in San Francisco as a homemaker and mother, raising her children. Once her children left home, she spent her remaining years in the Bay Area in San Bruno, South San Francisco and Redwood City.


She had devout faith in our Lord, Jesus Christ, was a past member of Catholic Daughters and attended bible study for over 30 years. Fran loved spending time at the beach and with her family. She enjoyed cooking; especially baking (her lemon meringue pie was the best. She was an avid reader and prolific writer. She did ceramics, made porcelain dolls and loved gardening, knitting, crocheting and photography. She was a loving, dedicated mother and grandmother and left all her children, grandchildren and great grandchildren with numerous throws, blankets, booties, sweaters and hats. She is loved tremendously and will be remembered forever with great affection.


Fran is survived by her four sons; Albert Jr. of Livingston, Texas, Peter (Cheryl) of Cave Junction, Oregon, Daniel (Sandy) of Brookdale, California, and Philip (Marilyn) of Walnut Creek, California, her sister Dorothy (Tee) Jenson of South San Francisco and brother David Bittner of Denver, Colorado, 11 grandchildren, 25 great-grandchildren and numerous nieces and nephews.


She was preceded in death by her infant son, John Norman and her young daughter, Anne Marie.


The service/ burial will be held at Holy Cross Cemetery in Colma, California at 10:00 AM on May 20, 2013.


Her family will hold a "celebration of life" at a future date.
