Harry R Agler
Born August 30th 1921 to Willliam and Mercedes Agler. Died September 17, 2012 in Walnut Creek.
He was preceded in death by Phyllis, his wife of over 50 years.
Harry is survived by his three children, Heidi Agler, Brad Agler, Lisa Shapiro and by his companion of many years, Shirley Conner.
Harry graduated from Oakland Technical High School in 1940 and from the University of California, Berkeley in 1948. His college years were interrupted by his service in WW II as an Army Lieutenant.
While at Berkeley, he played varsity football, the height of his "career" was serving as captain of the 1947 team that beat Stanford during Pappy Waldorfs first year as coach.
He was recalled to serve in Korea and was awarded the Bronze Star
for his service to his country. He was also awarded the Medal of Honor
of the Tiger Brigade by the Korean Forces.
Harry was a lifetime member of the California Alumni Association, served as Chairman of the Bear Backers and was a Berkeley Fellow.
Private services will be held at his home in Orinda.
