H. Theodore Birr III

Ted was born in Oakland, CA and was raised in Piedmont, CA. He attended college at UCBerkeley and joined the Phi Delta Theta fraternity. Following college, he travelled to New York for training to become an investment banker. Soon after this, he returned to the bay area to marry his high school sweetheart, Beth St. Sure. Ted was a member of the Air National Guard which was activated in 1950 and he served in the Korean War with the 144th Early Warning Squadron U.S. Air Force for 18 months in Spokane, Wa. After serving, Ted and Beth moved back to the bay area to start a family and be amongst family and friends.
Ted enjoyed a 50 year career in the investment banking business. He started as an account executive with Walston & Co., and later joined his father, Ted Birr, Sr., as vice president of Birr & Co., which later merged and became Birr, Wilson & Co., Inc. It grew into a large regional investment banking firm with 16 offices around the west.
Ted was the All American Sportsman. He loved to fly fish and duck hunt and raised many black labrador retrievers that were close companions. He was a member of the San Francisco Fly Casting Club and the Butte Ranch duck club. His other hobbies included gardening, barbequing, and playing dominoes.
Ted was a devoted family man who was nothing but sweet and loving to those he left behind. They include the love of his life, Beth Birr, his eldest daughter, Ellen Birr Little, his youngest daughter, Laura Birr Alders. Ted's eldest son, Roger Birr, predeceased him several years ago, but had the opportunity to work alongside him in the investment banking business for many years and share in his love of hunting and fishing. He is also survived by his brother Robert Roger Birr. Ted had three grandsons, Clayton Matthew Little, Bryce Patrick Little and Austin Lee Alders. He will be missed and held in a special place in the hearts of all who knew and loved him.
