Jack Hill

Jack Larry Hill Jack Larry Hill passed away in Antioch, California, on February 12, 2013, at age 81. He was born on June 22, 1931, in Houston, Texas, to Orion Alvah Hill and Lillian Wanda Reynolds Hill. In 1935, his family moved to Glendale, California. His father owned a series of music stores and also worked as a car salesman.

Jack graduated from the University of California, Berkeley, and also attended UC Santa Barbara and Pacific Union University. He retired from Lockheed Martin after 40 years as a defense contract materials purchasing agent. While performing that work, he spent nearly one year on Pohnpei Island in Micronesia. Before joining Lockheed, Jack accounted for inmate funds at the Alcatraz federal penitentiary for two years and, while a student in Berkeley, worked as a psychiatric technician.

Jack and his lifetime partner for more than 56 years, Ray Fong, who married in 2008, lived successively in Castro Valley and Glendale, California; Austin, Texas; Coral Gables, Florida; and Napa, Santa Clarita, and Antioch, California. While in Glendale, they operated the Dragon Nursery from a geodesic dome building on the site of Jack's parents' former home. They enjoyed traveling throughout the world, including vacations in Canada, Mexico, Costa Rica, Indonesia, Vietnam, Cambodia, Thailand, Singapore, Egypt, England, France, Spain, Italy, and Sweden, and a special trip to China to meet Ray's extended family. At home Jack's hobbies were sculpting, writing, and gardening. He had a great interest in politics, was well informed, and enjoyed discussing issues.

Jack will be remembered as a smart, kind, and generous husband, brother-in-law, uncle, and friend, who was also a lot of fun and very fond of his dogs Matthew and Shylo.

Jack is survived by his husband Ray Fong; sister-in-law Frances Jew; brothers-in-law John Juday, Ray Hee Fong, Lucky Fong, Lincoln Fong, John Fong, and George Fong; nieces Brooke Bryant Olson, Gretchen Hill Peterson, Deborah Dery Owens, Carolyn Juday Craig, Dana Juday Harris, Murren Sue Hill, Karen Jue Iovino, Lisa Uyehara, Juliet Fong Palma, Robin Fong, Cheryl Fong, Angelique Fong, and others; nephews Timothy Juday, Orion E. Hill, Quinn Olson, and others; and numerous great-grand nieces and nephews. All of us miss him greatly and are thankful to have been members of his extended family.
