Jill Whitney Strohn

Jill Whitney Strohn passed away February 14, 2013 at her home in Santa Rosa, CA with family by her side.


Jill was born November 14th, 1934 in Fresno, CA to Albert L. and Allene Strohn. She lived in Fresno for the early years of her life and briefly in Morro Bay. She attended grade school in Fresno, Ft. Benning Georgia, and overseas. She graduated from high school at The American School in Bremerhaven, Germany. She attended UNM prior to attending SFAI and graduated with a BA in Fine Arts in 1963. She lived in San Francisco for 36 years, Berkeley 12, and Santa Rosa until her passing. She was an accomplished painter and was active in the Bay Area art community. Her other interests included native plants and wildlife. She will be remembered for the dedication and love that she had for family, friends, and her life as an artist. She will forever be our Valentine.


She is survived by her sister Janine (Ray) Slaughter, niece Lori Morris, daughter Melanie (John) Allen, son Jeremy (Chrissy) Light, grandchildren Jessica Allen, Justine Maybrun, Scott Allen, and Aileen Light. She is predeceased by her parents, former husband Alvin Light, and partner of 18 yrs. Lawrence Stark.


A memorial is planned for friends & family on 4/20/13 at 11:30 A.M. at the WIC One Garden Way Woodacre, CA. Donations can be made to the California Native Plant Society or .
