Longtime Potrero Hill resident John Joseph "Bud" Brain Sr., a Coast Guard veteran of WWII and former San Francisco Fireman, died peacefully in his Sonoma home with his wife and family by his side on December 28th, 2013, at the age of 92. 

Bud is survived by the love of his life, Ramona Brain, of 55 years, and his brother-in-law Tom Balestreri.  Bud is the proud father of John Brain Jr., Joseph Brain (Robyn), Janet Almanza (Anthony), grandfather of Felicia, John III (Kendra), Alisha, Michael, Chelsea, Stephanie (Jose), great-grandfather of Jr., Valeria, Bryan, Noah, Panela, and Lauren, along with countless loving nieces, nephews, family and friends whom were blessed to have known him.  He was preceded in death by his beloved sister Evelyn Balestreri and brother Tony Brain (Katherine).

Friends and family are invited to attend a funeral mass on Monday, January 6th, 2014, at 10:00am, at St. Francis Solano Church, 469 - 3rd Street, West, Sonoma, CA 95476 followed by a burial at Sonoma Veteran's Memorial Park and a celebration of life at the Sonoma Veteran's Memorial Hall.  There will be a vigil service at Duggan's Mission Chapel on Sunday, January 5th, 2014, at 4pm, with visitations from 2:00pm – 6:00pm, located at 525 W. Napa Street, Sonoma, CA 95476.

In lieu of flowers, donations can be made to Project St. Francis Solano Church at 469 - 3rd Street, West, Sonoma, CA 95476 and Hospice by the Bay at 190 West Napa Street, Sonoma, CA 95476.
