Campbell, Sr.

John G. Campbell, aged 89, died on July 14, 2013 at home in Gardnerville, Nevada. His loving wife, Gloria, preceded him in 2008. He is survived by his three sons; John Griffith Jr. (Nancy), James Moore (Karri) and Robert Lester (Theresa), grandson Erik (Nicole), granddaughter Deborah (Nick) and two great-grandchildren, Landon and Mackenzie.

John was a native of Kansas City, Missouri and moved to Oakland in 1940. John served his country during WWII with the 78th Infantry Div, receiving an Honorable Discharge, Bronze Star, and awarded three Battle Stars; Ardenz (Battle of the Bulge), Rhineland (his was the first complete regiment to cross the Rhine River at Remagen), and Central Europe. Graduate of the Pacific Coast Banking School at the Univ. of Washington, John worked for Crocker Bank for more than 30 years, starting out in the mailroom with Anglo Calif. Bank in S.F. before it merged with Crocker. He retired as Senior Vice President. He also worked for Diablo Bank in Danville, Tri-Valley Bank in Dublin and River City Bank in Sacramento. His father was president of Kansas City Bank & Trust Company. Former resident of Orinda and Alamo, the Campbell family were founding members of St. Mark's United Methodist Church of Orinda. John was a member of Jr. Chamber of Commerce, Toastmasters, and Merchants Exchange Club.

His loving family and many friends will miss John. A Memorial Service will be held at the St. Mark's United Methodist Church, 451 Moraga Way, Orinda, CA 94563 on Saturday, August 3rd at 2 PM.
