82, passed away on Wednesday, March 12, 2014 while peacefully asleep at his home in Millbrae due to declining heart health.   He was born on March 17, 1931 in San Francisco, CA son of the late immigrants Demetrio and Marie Gonzalez of San Francisco.  Maurice graduated from Balboa High School and received his A.A. Degree from City College of San Francisco. 


Maurice served as a Bombardier Navigator in the US Air Force during the Korean War and was honorably discharged after having received his Pilots Wings and the National Defense Service Medal.  


In his early years after the war, Maurice founded his own Construction & Development Company – MG Construction which built custom homes and multi-unit complexes throughout San Francisco.  He then served as Assistant Superintendent for Dinwiddie Construction during the construction of the Bank of America World Headquarters in San Francisco – the tallest building west of the Mississippi at that time.  Maurice worked on many large scale construction projects before being recruited by San Mateo Union High School District to be their Director of Maintenance, Operations & Engineering.  After 32 years of loyal service to SMUHSD, he retired at the age of 70.


In his spare time Maurice donated his time, money and company resources to serve God.  He proudly sat on the Church Board of Trustees at Holy Trinity Greek Orthodox Church in San Francisco and was instrumental in the construction of its current church on Brotherhood Way.  For his relentless dedication and support of the church he was recipient of their 6th annual Lifetime Achievement Award. 


Maurice also enjoyed spending time with his family, vacationing together in Lake Tahoe, golfing and cheering on the 49ers.


Maurice is survived by his wife Irene, three children Joanne Zongus, Dean Gonzalez and Cynthia Aarons, their spouses, Mike, Marina and Jerry and his eight grandchildren Chrysann Vlahkos, Nicole Catchatoorian, Alexander Gonzalez, James Zongus, Kathryn Aarons, Alessia Gonzalez, Marisa Gonzalez and Nicolette Aarons.


His endearing personality, gentle kindness and good-heartiness will sadly be missed.


All services will be held at Holy Trinity Greek Orthodox Church, 999 Brotherhood Way, San Francisco:  Trisagion Services "Wake", Friday, March 14, 2014 at 8:00 PM, Funeral Services, Saturday, March 15, 2014 at 11:00 AM.  


In lieu of flowers, the family requests that donations be made to Holy Trinity Greek Orthodox Church (Dome Fund).
