Paul Bennett Hinxmann
San Francisco Photographer Paul Bennett Hinxmann died Peacefully March 31st 2014, with his family beside him.
Born in Portland, Maine November 10th, 1934, to Leroy S. and Rachel (Messer) Hinxman, Paul enlisted in the Navy in 1952 where he served during the Korean War as Quartermaster on the signal bridge of the Aircraft Carrier U.S.S. Coral Sea CV-43, until being honorably discharged in 1957. After getting his theater start with the Portland Players Paul moved to New York City where he studied Acting and appeared in several Off-Broadway plays to repeated high praise by critics.
After deciding to pursue his other love-Photography-Paul moved to San Francisco where he worked as a photographer, including serving as Chief Photographer on the S.S. Lurline Matson Line, and as staff Photographer for Shaklee Co. In 1967 he married Pauline J Doyle and had a Son, Alex. He continued to work as a photographer both personally and professionally for the rest of his life.
Paul lived in many different places and traveled all over the world in his lifetime. He is survived by his son Alex, Brother Fred and wife Joanna, nieces and nephew Kim, Krista, Kurt, Kara, ex-wife Pauline, and daughter-in-law Lauren. Paul was very well cared for by Pauline and Alex at the end of his life.
Paul was a loving, caring, genuine man. He loved to laugh and have a pint or a martini with his friends. He loved Photography, Music, Art, Theater and his Scottish heritage. He passed these loves on to his son. He will be sorely missed. His ashes will be scattered in the ocean which he loved so much.
Military Funeral services will be held Mon June 2nd at 11am at Sacramento Valley National Cemetery, with a reception to follow at Johnny Foley's in San Francisco from 1:30-5pm.
