Richard "Dick" Taylor Mallon

Richard T. Mallon, Lt. Col.,USAF Ret., son of Maj. Gen. F.B. Mallon and Eunice Casey, passed away on June 9th at Sunrise of Chandler after a short illness. He is survived by his daughter, Cynthia Mallon Conley, son-in-law Jerry, and granddaughters Mary Shannon and Daniella. Known as Dick to his friends in San Mateo and Roseville, CA, he moved to Arizona 5 years ago to be close to family.

He was born in Coblenz, Germany in 1922 to parents serving in the US Army of Occupation. Early years were spent at camps across the US and Washington, DC; he graduated from Galileo HS in San Francisco. During WW2, he was based in China with the Chinese American Composite Wing (26th FS-51st FG) and graduated from UCLA at war's end. His career with the LA Probation Dept. was interrupted by recall to the Air Force in 1951. He served 16 years, with stations in the US, Germany and Italy. He returned to Adult Probation with San Mateo County from 1967-1986. Dick traveled to China with the Commonwealth Club of San Francisco in 1980 on a fact-finding trip. He was also a member of the San Mateo County Grand Jury.

While working as a part time private investigator, he acted in local community theater and had roles in student and feature films and print advertising. He held a Screen Actor's Guild card and was proud of it. Internment with military honors will be held at Arlington National Cemetery at a future date. In lieu of flowers, the family encourages support of the Paralyzed Veterans of America.
