Robert McNie Jr.

Robert Kyle McNie Jr., son of designer Robert McNie Sr. and Davideen Ball McNie, was born and lived almost his whole life in San Francisco. Bob, or Robbie, was enthusiastic, talented, charismatic, social, independent, both boisterous and elusive, unforgettable. He was a great and funny story teller. Bob had a strong sense of style and design which he called "a gift of the genes from my father and mother" and an uncanny visual memory. Friend Don Dahlstrom remembers him as "a natural carpenter and craftsman. His work seemed to combine sturdy innovative designs with the advanced knowledge of a master, although I never knew him to be trained or schooled. I'm still impressed with his foresight and planning abilities, the expertise to see a project all the way through and still produce results that inspire and impress."
Bob was the brother of Morissa McNie Burman and Joch Allin McNie and is survived by sons Tait Kendall Fritz and Caton Teague Fritz, stepbrother Peter Linenthal, nephew Jesse Kyle McNie and niece Serena Burman. There will be a celebration of his life Sunday, March 17, 10am-noon. Please call 415-863-0784 for details.
