Shannon Wong of San Francisco, born in Fresno, California on August 11, 1937 died peacefully at home on October 17th, 2013 after a brief illness. He is survived by his wife, Taylor Wilcox, daughter Annabel, sister Maylene and Newfoundland Jelly.
Shannon received a DDS from the school of Dentistry at University of California, San Francisco and a MS in Endodontics from the school of dentistry at University of Texas in Houston.
He served in the United States Air Force for 13 years at posts in the US and overseas including a tour in Viet Nam where he was awarded the Bronze Star and retired with the rank of Colonel.
Shannon entered private practice in Endodontics for 21 years before leaving to join the full time faculty at the Arthur A. Dugoni School of Dentistry University of Pacific as Associate professor of Endodontics. He won numerous teaching awards including the Distinguished Faculty Member award from the American College of Dentists and the Lucian Szymd Memorial award for Teaching Excellence for an unprecedented two years in 1998 and 2012.
Shannon will be remembered as a kind and gentle soul of unlimited generosity. He considered his friends and colleagues to be his most valuable assets. His loves were good food and wine, competitive games of Volleyball and Squash, a day on the bay, the beaches at Carmel, Hawaii, Stinson and Martha's Vineyard where a well turned ankle never went unnoticed.
Among his favored were his dogs of all sizes from Yorkies to Labradors, Great Pyrenees and Newfoundlands.
A memorial will be held at the Arthur A. Dugoni School of Dentistry at 2155 Webster street on Wednesday November 6, 2013, 1 PM in the auditorium room 103. Interment will be in Fresno with full Military honors
