Steve died on March 6, 2013, at the age of 61, only a few months after being diagnosed with cancer. He was born on October 17, 1951 in Chicago, Illinois, and grew up in Park Forest, Ill. He became fascinated with computers at an early age. Steve attended the University of Illinois, majoring in computer science. He was employed as a computer programmer for nearly 40 years. Computers were both a calling and an avocation for Steve. He was a member of the Marin County Golden Gate Computer Society for 20 years. He served on the board and in a number of other capacities. At his church, he was in charge of all computers for over 25 years. He and his wife, Lisa, also sang in their church choir. Steve played bridge monthly with friends. He was elected twice as a delegate to the Marin County Republican Committee.

Steve is survived by his wife Lisa Vance, his sister Joan Vance, and his brother Tim Vance.

A memorial service for Steve will be held at the Episcopal Church of St. Mary the Virgin on Thursday, March 21, 2013 at 5:00 p.m. The church is located at 2325 Union Street, San Francisco, CA 94123. Parking is available at the Lombard Garage located on Moulton Street just west of Webster.
