Sept. 29, 1922 - Jun. 14, 2013
On June 14, Ginny Nessier joined Rod, Joe and the gang for heaven's 5:00 cocktail hour. During her long life she brought joy and comfort to many of us with her constant encouragement and warm humor.
Ginny was born in Little Falls, MN and grew up in St. Paul. She was the youngest child of Harry and Leonella Meyers. She graduated from the University of Minnesota in 1944. A year later she and three girlfriends took the train to Los Angeles to see the palm trees. They spent a summer in Lake Tahoe before moving to San Francisco where she met the love of her life, Rod. They married in 1947 and had three children.
Ginny worked at the SFSU Student Health Service for 27 years. She loved working with the students and when Rod died suddenly in 1974, the staff became her second family guiding her through that tough time. After retiring, Ginny became an avid traveler and volunteered as an ombudsman, peer counselor and at the de Young Museum.
Proceeded in death by her husband Rod and then long-time companion Joe Lopez, Ginny is survived by daughters Chris and Michele, sons-in-law Desmond Powers and Tim Bostwick, granddaughters Eileen Powers and Melissa Bostwick and many close friends, nieces and nephews. She also had a son, Steve (Cathy) and two grandsons, Matt and Blair.
A memorial service will be held at St. Stephens Catholic Church, 601 Eucalyptus Dr, San Francisco on June 27 at 10:00am, with a reception to follow.
