81, passed away peacefully in Nevada City on January 9, 2014 after a long illness with his loving wife Judy at his side. His sons, Mark and Sean Bernard, Tom Blackwood and his wife, Kim Withrow, were also at his side. He is also survived by his daughter, Maria Harris of Louisiana, and seven grandchildren and two great-grandchildren. His only sister, Pat Grim, predeceased him. His mother, Ruth Fazackerly Davidson, was the sister of Don Fazackerly, a San Francisco Supervisor. His father, Walter Arthur Bernard, a World War I Veteran, died in 1938 from cancer due to mustard gas poisoning after serving in France. Walter spent 9 years at St. Vincent's School for Boys after his father's death, attended St. Agnes, graduated in 1950 from St. Ignatius College Preparatory and the University of San Francisco in 1954. He was also a Second Lieutenant Fixed Wing Army Aviator and served during the Korean War and the Berlin crisis. He worked in the field of finance and investments and retired as an Institutional Investment Trust Officer at First Interstate Bank in San Francisco. Walter will be interred with his father at The Presidio National Cemetery and his life will be celebrated on his birthday in June at the Buena Vista Winery in Sonoma.
