I am so sorry to hear of Fr. Jim's passing. While travelling for business in Chicago, I happened to attend mass at Old St. Mary's. His homily was remarkable and it truly touched me. He was kind enough to send me a copy of it which I still have to this day...

We are grieved to hear of Fr. Jim's sudden passing and we offer our heartfelt condolences to his family and religious community. We were friends for 40 years from when we first met at St. Mary's Chinese Day School in San Francisco, CA where Alyce was a teacher. One of our notable memories of Fr. Jim was from when he was suddenly sticken and had emergency surgery at a small South Lake Tahoe hospital. We drove Msgr. Pat Leary from San Francisco and some decent food to his bedside through one of the worst Spring snowstorms in Sierra history. On arrival, Fr. Jim had us laughing in seconds! I will remember his quick wry wit and caring nature which helped shape his ministery. He had a natural way of looking at life's troubles and putting them into perspective that helped calm others. May he rest in peace and, hopefully, near some other Red Sox fans.

Father Jim was a great man with a beautiful soul. He was one of the few people I knew who was truly devout in his desire to help others. I will very much miss him.
