Sibylle Waizenegger Resident of Danville Oct. 14, 1942 - Sept. 5, 2010 Sibylle Waizenegger passed away on September 5th in Fiji after a tragic scuba diving accident. We in the design group and workshop at Filoli were shocked and saddened by the tragedy of Sibylle's death. It seems impossible that she is gone.

Sibylle was a natural aesthetic with a sense of style that can't be instilled by training. All of us who worked with her were fortunate for she shared her talents so graciously. And her talents transferred so seamlessly from one endeavor to the next. What a showplace she created in your Blackhawk home from the stunning fireplace to the placement of each individual piece you collected in your world travels. My favorite was the amethyst crystal but she had such a good eye for all things it seems.

I was stunned at the perfection of her garden the last time we were there and now I am so grateful that I shared my reaction. I told her I was going to give up gardening all together. Hers was the most beautiful I have ever seen. What combinations of colors and textures. The gardens at Filoli are dim in comparison to Sibylle's garden.

It was a huge compliment that she continued working with us after your move across the bay. In some respects we have grown up together. We shared family triumphs and tragedies in sickness and in health, you could say.

Nobody tackled the next thing with more enthusiasm than Sibylle did. We can all take a lesson from the way she lived her life -- to the fullest.

I regret that I can not be there on Friday for the memorial service. We are in Oregon this week. We grieve at loosing our friend. Yet we are acutely aware that our loss is dwarfed by the loss your family feels. Sibylle was the grandest of grandmothers. Her family, each of you, were so important to her. Being so treasured has to be life's greatest gift. May Sibylle rest in peace and may you come to feel some peace of mind eventually for having had her for such a significant part of your lives.

Most sincerely,
Marty Breon
